Art Journal - Layered Card Background

 I was inspired by Maremi Small Art to try layering small pieces of card to create a mixed media background. (specifically this video)

I used embossing folders on my pieces of card. I embossed them with card pieces the size of my embossing folder and then cut them down to the size seen in the picture. I used both a wood-grain and a sheet music embossing folder for a more varied texture. Once these were glued down I painted the whole thing in black with highlights of gold and silver. Finally, the details were collaged on top.
