Crochet Thunderbird 2

I designed this based on pictures of the 1960s design.

The most important thing when I started this project was working out a way for the pod to be removable like it is in the show. The surrounding structure is just tight enough that the pod doesn't fall out but is still able to be removed easily. 

To keep the pod removable, this was made in a lot of pieces and sewn together as I went along. Some sections, such as the wings, are two identical pieces sewn together for added strength. The numbers and windows were cut out of felt and sewn on.
