Gothic Tower

Gothic Tower artwork

-

[Image ID] Watercolour of a 3 storeyed tower on a rocky hilltop and surrounded by trees. Behind the hillside a large round sun and fluffy grey clouds are visble. There are 8 windows on the front of the tower. The style of window is different on each floor, but each has gothic elements. The windows on each side of the arched wooden front door consist of three pointed arch shapes in a row. On the middle floor there is a tall narrow window above the front door with much wider ones either side. The middle window on the top floor is a trefoil shape with a thin, short, pointy topped, window either side. [description end]

The tower’s design was inspired by the shape of the ‘Designer's Choice 14 - Exquisite Censer Gift Box’ dies by Tonic Studios. The description on their website actually noted that its design had been influenced by gothic architecture. The rest of the painting developed to fit around the tower.

I sketched it in watercolour pencil, added colour with watercolour paints, and used a mixture of paints and pencils for the details. I completed this piece in two sessions about a week apart, and it took somewhere between 2.5 - 4 hours.
