Forest Folly
-
[Image ID 1] A light coloured, and slightly ruined, folly situated in a deep green forest. The folly sits on a grassy mound, surrounded by tall trees, and with a set of crumbling stone steps leading down towards the viewer. Thick vines hang down in the top left, and are gradually hidden by the foliage of a tree towards the right hand side. Several shafts of light come through the canopy casting a yellow glow onto areas of the grass and folly. Circular glowing fireflies can also be seen dotted around the image.[description end]

Most of the details were determined at the sketch stage, but I sketched the folly loosely and only finalised it's shape when I painted it in. It was easier to get an ‘organic’ ruined shape this way as the brush strokes made the shape naturally which prevented overthinking.

[Image ID 2] A cropped version of the main image to highlight the patterning in and around the entrance to the stone folly.[description end]
-
The internal details of the folly are inspired by the intricate carvings seen on cathedral walls and ceilings.
