Havoc On The Horizon 2.0

Havoc On The Horizon 2.0 artwork

[Image ID] A female figure, dressed in a sci-fi protective suit, is suspended in mid-air facing away from the viewer. She is using wires to fling herself (spiderman style) from one building to another. Behind her is a city skyline in hues of dark blue with hints of pink reflected onto the buildings from the setting sun. [description end]

This piece was created in September but Inktober started before I got chance to post it.

I began by sketching the cityscape which, unusually, was done in Procreate. I recently made a few tweaks to my Procreate setup and was doing some practise in the program as a result. The majority of my digital work is still done in FireAlpaca however, as I find it has better features and is much more user friendly.

Havoc wasn’t originally in the painting, but I added her rough outlines to fill a gap in the centre of the composition. It was only after this that I decided to import it into FireAlpaca and complete the painting.

Once imported into FireAlpaca, I reverted to my usual process of completing the character and then working on the scenery behind. I experimented with some new brushes in the background, including a couple of cloud ones FireAlpaca has made available as free downloads which were much easier to use than cloud brushes I’d made in the past.

Although not created as a newer version, as I worked on this piece I realised that it piece has a number of similarities with one from 2019, which influenced my choice of title.

The 2019 ‘Havoc On The Horizon’ can be viewed here.
