Art Journal - Standing Stones
-
[Image ID] A rectangular ‘art journal’ page depicting a landscape
scene. Three tall, thin, standing stones, whose shapes somewhat resemble
rectangles, are in the foreground on the right hand side. Behind them is a
light coloured bluey-white sky. To the left the landscape stretches out,
sloping down towards a body of water, and with a low hill visible beyond that.
Above the hill, a semi-circular segment of the sun can be seen rising up into
the sky with spikey rays radiating out from it. Towards the top of the picture
the sky turns yellow and a postage stamp like shape is placed in the top left
corner to give the impression of a vintage postcard. A wobbly dark brown border
surrounds the page as another reference to the look of old paper. [Description

An art journal page created to look like a vintage postcard.
The stones I drew are loosely based on some from the ‘Callanish stones’ circle
as I liked their tall and thin shapes. I took a different approach to this page
compared to what I normally gravitate towards as there is very little stamping.
The only stamps I used are for the postage mark and the light brown splatters
in the lower right corner, everything else on the page is hand drawn.
The page was coated with Gesso, which I had tinted brown, before I started work on it. This both made the page more durable, and toned down the colours for a more
vintage-y effect.
