[Image ID] An imaginary prehistoric landscape with hills in the background. In the foreground a set of steps leads up to two stone cottages. They are on a raised mound in the centre of the picture. A path leads from the top of the steps to the front door of each of the cottages. The left hand cottage has a round door and the right hand one has an arched door. I used a combination of art and papercraft techniques on
this piece as I used three stamps (the two houses, and the staircase) within an
otherwise hand-drawn scene. It is painted in my sketchbook, on thick printer
paper, which works fine with light to medium watercolour.
The shape and roofing of the Lavinia Stamps houses has
always reminded me of prehistoric round houses, so I decided to do a piece utilising
them in that way. Therefore, the concept of this painting is a small
prehistoric settlement within a circular earthwork enclosure.
