The inner doorway marked a transition. Between the relative safety of the control room, and the undeniable danger of a mine shaft The Hood was confirmed to have recently interfered with

This piece was inspired by a scene I’d written for creative writing practise, which itself drew on the uranium mine setting from the ‘Crosscut’ episode of Thunderbirds Are Go. Scott is alone on the scene, at night, and attempting to rescue a civilian trapped down the mine. As if a mine which had been decommissioned for decades wasn’t dangerous enough, the civilian had become trapped following abduction by The Hood.

The yellow light in this piece, from the aged and dirt caked lightbulbs, made it challenging to paint. It is difficult to make things look like they’re reflecting yellow light in a dim space, whilst not appearing to actually be yellow.
