Vase 'still life' painting
-
[Image ID] A watercolour painting of some flowers in a textured brown vase. The flower petals are light pink at the edges and dark pink near the centre and the foliage is fernlike. The centres of the flowers are orange. Some of the flowers are fully open and facing towards you whilst on some others you only see the underside of the petals. [description end]

This painting is a stylised ‘still life’ inspired by a vase
of fake flowers. I really liked the texture and shape of the vase, so put most
effort into depicting that accurately, whilst the flowers were intentionally done in a more 'loose' style.
As is typical of my watercolour paintings, I began with a
loose base layer of colour using the watercolour paints and slowly added finer
details in layers. Once I reached a point where it was hard to get any finer
details with a brush I switched over to watercolour pencils and eventually a
fineliner.
The speckles in the background were created by tapping a fan
brush over the paper such that splatters fell onto it.
