View Across the Rainy Marsh
[Image ID] A watercolour landscape on a rainy day, with mountains in the background and marsh in the foreground. The sky and mountains are grey and misty. In the foreground the watery marsh is dotted with little green islands of varying shapes and sizes. Clumps of yellow Flag Iris are growing at the water’s edge of all the islands. [description end]

The scene was created in the spur of the moment, and gradually developed as I painted it.
I started the illustration with watercolour paints, and continued layering them until I reached a point where it was hard to get the details with a brush. Then I switched to using some Steadler fineliners in various colours to add the details. After that I added another layer of watercolour in certain areas to fill in extra colour.
The rain effect in this piece was actually quite simple to create. I simply drew slanted lines down the page, with little gaps every so often, using a light grey fineliner.
