Macramé Garland

Several weeks ago I participated in an online workshop run by Hobbycraft about learning to make a macramé Christmas garland, and today I thought I’d share a few photos of my completed project. Except for the grey and white twine on the star, and ribbon on the white tree, the entire garland is made with the macramé string from the workshop kit.

I had never attempted macramé before, so creating this garland was an entirely new experience. I was pleasantly surprised by how simple it was once I got started, as all the designs in the garland rely on the same basic knot.

The star is constructed on a small metal ring to create the centre circle. There were various ways to finish the star, but I decided to tie the ends of the strings together for a more star-like shape as I was concerned it would look too much like a snowflake otherwise.

This tree uses a very similar principal to the first one but instead of leaving loops between the knots and using a single piece of string, individual pieces of string were tied below one another.
