Frosty Photos

This collection of photos is the result of the photography session I mentioned a couple of weeks ago in ‘A Winter Garden’.

A cluster of mushrooms has been on my lawn all autumn; I’d expected them to just get a thin frosty coating, but instead the frost created this spectacular fur-like effect.

The ‘furry’ frost looks more like a series of long flakes from the side

These other two large mushrooms were also spectacularly frosted over.

A close up of the frost on the mushroom showing the detail. This image almost looks like a sheep’s fleece. [description end]

I took this photo to show the detail of the ‘frost fluff’ on the mushroom’s surface.

[Image ID] A photo of the pair of mushrooms from earlier in the year, without the frost, they do not appear fluffy or textured.  [description end]

The most surprising thing about the textured frost was that the mushrooms themselves were relatively smooth with little texturing, as shown in this photo from earlier in the autumn.

[Image ID] Four frosty cobwebs, in a line, along the side of a garden shed. [description end]

This cluster of frosted cobwebs caught my attention because of how nicely lined up they are. All the other webs on the building were arranged randomly, except for these four that were neatly arranged side by side along the wall of the building.

[Image ID] Frozen water in a small bowl pond.  Frosted grass like plants stick out of the ice on either side. [description end]

[Image ID] A branch of a flowering currant. The brown leaves have frosted edges. [description end]

[Image ID] A collection of frosted poppy seedheads. [description end]

The way the frost formed on these poppy seedheads was quite interesting as it mostly formed on only one side.

This seedhead was particularly interesting because some moss had started growing on it, and the frozen moss makes one side of the seedhead appear knobbly.
