Tropical Beach
[Image ID] A landscape painting done in watercolour. The scene looks out from a sandy beach across the sea, which reflects the blue sky. Trees either side of the scene frame the picture, and there are a handful of boats at differing distances from the shore. [description end]
A spontaneous painting I did one afternoon which was originally supposed to be something else, but the green ended up the wrong shape. Once it became clear that the original idea was unsalvageable for this particular piece of paper, I considered what else I could turn it into and this was the result.
Because it was not originally intended to be tree leaves the green had been applied very solidly, so I relied on using different tones to create a leafy texture rather than leaving gaps.
The boats and the lines of the bark were drawn in with a fineliner, whilst the sea foam was drawn with a mixture of gel and paint pens.
