Tile Birthday Card

The inspiration for this card came from an interesting source – the print on a pair of shorts. The tile-like print of the Cass Print Adele Shorts by Lucy And Yak reminded me of a die set with similar patterns, and that idea eventually led to this card. The photo below is a closeup of the pattern on the shorts without the card on top.

I started by applying splodges of ink in shades of blue, green, and yellow to a piece of white card. Once dry I die cut the six small panels from it. I die cut the happy birthday sentiment from a different piece of card on which I had ink blended the same inks to form a gradient effect. The background panel was ink blended with a grey ink.

Constructing the card was very simple, as I arranged the decorative panels in a line at the top and bottom, then added the sentiment in the middle. I did trim the sentiment down a little once I’d cut it, as the extra twirl didn’t fit the layout properly. Once everything was glued down I outlined the intricate panels with a black fineliner, and drew in a ‘drop shadow’ effect on one side of the sentiment.
