Coronation Beacon

This week I’m sharing a few photos I took when I went to watch the lighting of coronation a beacon last weekend. Night photography is one of the times I really notice the difference in quality since switching to a DSLR camera, as it picks up more of the scene rather than just a glowing speck on a black background.

Photo 1
[Image ID] A portrait photo of a lit beacon. There are two silhouette figures, and their dog, stood in front of the beacon. Two sets of floodlights, in a skate park, stand tall behind and slightly to the right of the beacon. [description end]

Photo 2
[Image ID] A close up view of the lit beacon. The shape of the flames is such that one could imagine a fiery dragon is seated inside the beacon. [description end]

I took most of the photos on a 'rapid fire' setting and then sorted through the pictures afterwards to choose the ones where the flames looked best. I chose this particular one as the way the flames were, made me think of a dragon sat inside the beacon.

Photo 3[Image ID] In this view, the beacon is to the right of the picture and you can see sparks flying. The ramps in the skate park are more evident as they catch the light in this photo. [description end]

Photo 4
[Image ID] A different close up view of the beacon, as well as three sets of floodlights. [description end]

Although not an intentional choice when I took the photo, the three tall floodlights in the background create an interesting composition around the beacon.

Photo 5[Image ID] A photo of the beacon in its wider setting. To the right of the beacon there are some silhouette figures, and more of the skate park is visible. [description end]
