Wimpole Hall Photos
This week’s collection of photos were all taken at Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire.
[Image ID] This photo was taken at the foot of a staircase looking up through the space to the high, square ceiling above. [description end]
[Image ID] This photo is looking up at a different angle, and this time the main feature is a large portrait in an ornate gold frame.[description end]
The two photos above were taken looking up the main
staircase but from different directions. I thought the ‘cropping’ of the view
provided by the underside of the stairs and the intense light from the skylight
created a very unique perspective. I also found it interesting how the same
staircase can look completely different from one angle to another – as seen in
these photos.
[Image ID] Looking through an archway into a highly decorated room. The archway and lighting creates a darker vignette effect around the edge of the photo. [description end]
I took this photo to capture the way the arched ceiling in
the foreground framed the larger room behind it.
[Image ID] Looking down over the wide sunlit grass avenue in front of the hall, towards the Cambridgeshire hills. It was a bright day with light blue sky and lots of fluffy clouds. [description end]
The intense striping of light and shade down the avenue was
what caught my attention for this photo.
[Image ID] A bright, sunny landscape scene framed by trees on either side. The central part is grass leading up to a folly tower with trees behind. [description end]
There is a folly built at the far end of the ground behind
the hall and this is the view looking towards it from the edge of the formal
gardens.
[Image ID] A sunlit view across the formal parterre gardens. There is a white door in the garden wall, and to the left you can see the top of the church. [description end]
This photo looks the other way – back across the formal gardens. The light coloured building behind the brick wall is the estate church.
