Art Journal: Houses

Photo 1
[Image ID] An art journal double page spread. Two houses are set on a green and brown landscape and the sky is blue with white clouds. The houses are on the right hand page. The first house is short and squat and the second is tall and thin. The roof and decoration, on them both, is like some Swiss chalets. [description end]

This was primarily an experiment with texture paste. Other than the die cut houses almost all the raised areas of the page were created using only texture paste. I used a stencil for the clouds, but ‘freehanded’ the ground. Once the texture paste had dried I painted the page with a selection of acrylic paints in appropriate tones.

I used white and silver paint pen to add further detail to the sky, as well as some subtle and patchy impressions of a script stamp for another layer of visual interest.

Photo 2
[Image ID] In this photo the journal has been tilted so the shine on the edge of the clouds and stars is visible. [description end]

I stamped and coloured the stars on a separate piece of paper, then cut them out and glued them in. The houses themselves were die cut, then coloured. I used ink blending to colour the large areas, but swapped to my Fabre-Castell Pitt pens to colour the small details. The rooves of the houses were embossed using a wood grain embossing folder so that they stood out.
