Tower Under the Moon

Photo 1
[Image ID] A watercolour painting of the top of a tower on a moon and starlit night. The cylindrical tower has a domed top, beneath which are arched windows. [description end]

This painting was inspired by some of the ‘concept art’ sketches I’ve done for architecture in the world of Candle of Ice (my fantasy novel project). I liked the shape of the domed tower from one such sketch, and thought it would look nice done in watercolour. The ‘shattered glass’ line effect was created by placing cling film over the first layer of the background whilst the paint was still very wet. Unusually, I didn’t use any watercolour pencil on this piece other than to mark some very loose outlines for the placement of the tower.
