Winter Lavinia Scene

Winter Lavinia Scene 1

[Image ID]A snowy scene, with a stream running through it. It is framed by trees either side and there are two huts in the mid-ground. A fairy silhouette is crouching near the stream. [description end]

This piece started out with a half-painting I started all the way back in 2021 for an Inktober prompt. After deciding this version wasn’t quite right for that prompt, it sat in a pile of unfinished paintings as I wondered what to do with it until this January when I finally decided to try putting a Lavinia Stamps spin on it.

If you’re curious about the version of the background which became the Inktober prompt artwork back in 2021, it’s the final one in this post.

At a personal level, there was something especially exciting about seeing this half painting I’ve held onto all these years finally turned into something I’m happy with.

Compared to some of my Lavinia Stamps landscapes, this one used very few supplies. I used my Versafine Clair ink pads, in Nocturne and Warm Breeze, for the stamping as well as Fabre Castell Pitt Artist Pens to colour the houses. Beyond that, my main tools were a white paint pen and white gel pens which I could layer over the grey-ish watercolour background to give a snowy texture.

As a final touch once I’d finished the stamping and drawing, I added stickles for a glittery effect on the areas where I thought the snow would catch the light. This effect can be seen in the photo above.
