Inktober 2025: 8 - Reckless
[Image ID] Watercolour painting of a bubbling pot, on a fire in a cave [description end]
This particular prompt felt very difficult to depict in a single painting because being ‘reckless’ is more of an action but eventually I came up with the idea of a pot left to boil over. Because of my interest in prehistory, I decided to set the painting in that era by filling the background with the style of handprint paintings seen in various caves around the world. I used masking fluid to cover the shape of the hands, then painted over it, to mimic the way prehistoric people would put their hands on the cave wall and then blow paint over it to create a handprint.
A particularly famous example of this type of cave painting is the ‘Cave of the Hands’ in Argentina – I’ve linked the Wikipedia page about it here.
